The Plan

May 2015.

I have a trip back to NZ booked for June 2015, and am planning a month off work to do something in August. What that is at the moment I do not know.

Work takes up time, but money is growing in the bank, so travels will happen at some stage. There is still a lot of the world to see.

I will continue to explore London and its surrounds as well as day and weekend trips here and there, and I will document what I find interesting as I go.

Just checked … Thaipusam is celebrated on Tue 07FEB this year. You can look forward to devotees piercing themselves in all ways. Try put some thought into being in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Penang during that time. I’ll be most envious as I’ve been wanting to do it for many years … will be living vicariously through your lens and this blog. I’ll come back to you regarding my future travel plans which will unfortunately exclude Thaipusam.

Note that Chinese New Year is on Mon 23JAN. Implications:
    (1) The days leading up to this could be difficult for intercity transport of any kind as people try to get back to their hometowns and loved ones … perhaps try to book ahead.
    (2) Most if not all businesses (including transport) could be shut on 23/24/25JAN which would make most towns dead quiet.

If you spend 4 weeks in Vietnam (a good duration for sights, beach, highlands and time with friends) then 2 weeks in Laos that will leave another 2 weeks for other things before I get to Shanghai … if you care to join me. It does get you to Europe a little later than your plan. You can always dive the Red Sea on the way to Africa or on the way back to NZ. That could also mean that you visit Egypt during a cooler time of year.

The Red Sea is amazing and was my trigger to take up diving but sadly Egypt is the worst possible introduction to the Middle East as it has all the annoyances due to being highly-touristed … unlike countries like Syria and Iran where hospitality still reigns.

  5. I did the Trans-Canada trip! It’s so amazing! I wrote a post on it if you want to see more!
