Hi and welcome to Where’s Phil !
August 2016 – A brief update. I am off to India and New Zealand for a month in November. My ideal would be spend a few months in India, but I don’t have a few months at the moment. I am going to head to the Pushkar camel fair in Rajastan and then explore the area for a couple of weeks before heading back to NZ for a couple of weeks – via Brisbane. I am looking forward to it!
I started this blog in 2011 when I decided to fulfill a long held dream to continue the travel I started in the mid-eighties. Travel that was postponed so I could enjoy family life, earn some money and be a (semi-) responsible parent to three children; who are now all grown up and living their own lives.
My travels took me from my quiet and safe home in Auckland, New Zealand through large parts of South East Asia, Sri Lanka, some of southern and eastern Africa and a tiny bit of Europe. Eventually I stopped in the city of my birth and I guess the place you could call my spiritual home, London, England. I am still here.
The blog serves two purposes, it keeps my family and friends up to date with what I have been doing and where I have been doing it, and it is also my own record of the places I have been and the experiences I have had. Like the travelling itself I was surprised that I have managed to keep the blog going for so long, though now it has become habit to keep a record and looking back I am so pleased that I did.
I really enjoy exploring, am still mad-keen on photography and I will continue to document things that interest me. I have been enjoying walking the South West Coast Path and would like to walk all 630 miles (1100 km) of it. In the perfect world I would do this all in one epic walk, but the world is not perfect. I will just have to walk it all in sections as work allows.
I get a lot of site visits from people looking for information on some of the places I have been to, pages from my Myanmar, Borneo and Laos visits are read almost on a daily basis.
If you find the information useful, want to ask a question, or just comment – please do !!
Thanks for taking the time to visit, and if you have made it this far, for taking the time to read some of my blog.
Please note – all photographs remain copyright to Phil Platt.
